Biography
I grew up in Israel, on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. I absorbed the colors of the desert and the sea, the biblical history and the magnificent ancient ruins, dating more than 2000 years ago. This natural beauty and spirtual legacy are part of who I am.
I studied Fashion Design and History of Art in WIZO college of Design in Haifa, Israel. After graduating, I ran a women's and children's clothing factory for 13 years, making the designs and patterns, supervising the manufacturing. I also taught Fashion Design and History of Art to high school students.
When I create my beads, I like to experiment with colors, shapes, textures, and techniques. I love to play with combinations of opaque and transparent glass, mixing colors to create natural, almost liquid effects. Each new design evolves from a previous one. Some of my styles drive directly from the landscapes of my home. Many of my ideas are inspired by textiles. In my mind, a bead is a piece of fabric, ready to be decorated. This is a result of my years in that field. Even if I can't produce my vision, it still opens to me a new direction. Some of my beads are decorated with geometric shapes, others are more organic and accidental. Although a perfectionist, I like slight imperfections in my beads. I feel that they give a soul to a bead, the "handmade" touch.
I create my beads by melting glass around a stainless steel mandrel. I then add to the bead, and manipulate, addtional colors to create unique decorations. Each bead is cooled in a special process to reduce the likelihood of cracking. No two beads are the same.
I moved to the USA in 2003. I lived in Yakima, Washington, where I took a weekend class in Lampworking--the art of glass bead making--and got addicted.
Recently, I moved to Califonia, and I now reside with my family in Davis.
My jewelry appeared in the juried show "Art to Wear" at the Larson Gallery in Yakima, Wahsington (Jan. 16-Feb. 19, 2005). Recently I had been accepted as an "exhibiting member" of ACGA-- Association of Clay&Glass Artists of California.
I will exhibit a specialy created necklace in the 'Thinking Green' exhibition at the Art Works Downtown in San Rafael. This exhibition is juried by Bill Abright.
